Both of the New York City NFL franchises play their home games in… New Jersey. MetLife Stadium is a unique stadium located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Where are the seats in the shade and sun at MetLife Stadium?
Generally, the seats in the shade at MetLife Stadium are located:
- South End Zone: Shade in sections on the south side of the stadium
- West Sideline: Shaded seats on the visiting team’s side of the field
And the seats in the sun at MetLife Stadium are located:
- East Sideline: Sunny on the Jets and Giants side of the field
- North End Zone: Sun soaked in sections on the north side of the stadium
Most games at MetLife Stadium kick off at 1:00pm with the occasional night game or late afternoon start. Concerts and soccer matches typically start in the later afternoon or evening. For specific details about which sections are shaded at different times of day, please continue reading.
MetLife Stadium Orientation to the Sun
MetLife Stadium is oriented in a slightly off-axis north to south direction. By noon the sun is high in the sky and slightly behind the southern end zone. Over the course of the afternoon the sun dips down behind visitor’s side of the stadium and eventually sets just past the 50-yard line.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Early Afternoon Jets and Giants Games
Early in the afternoon the sun is high above and shade is relatively limited. Over the course of the afternoon the sun advances across the sky behind the east (visitor’s) side of the stadium. Fans in sections 124-140 and 224-240 will experience shade the earliest. In the upper deck, seats in the back rows are shaded by the “solar ring” atop the stadium. Sections 324-340 will eventually get shade in all rows as the sun dips behind the stadium.
If you’re seeking the sun, most sections on the east (home) side of the stadium will keep you warm. Sections 108-118 and 208-219 are particularly sun soak. Seats behind the north end zone will also stay sunny later into the afternoon.
By mid-afternoon seats on the west side of the stadium and behind the south end zone are shaded while those on the east side of the stadium and north end zone are still in the sun.

Seats in the Sun and Shade at Late Afternoon Jets and Giants Games
For games or concerts scheduled after 4:00 PM, it’s much easier to find a seat in the shade. Most seats on the west (visitor’s) side of the field, as well as sections behind the south end zone, will be shaded for most or all of the game. If you’re looking for sun, stick to the east (home) side of the field. The sun is low in the sky by late in the day and will shine directly on seats on the east side of the stadium.
